The family trade, rewired.
My grandfather founded Barkman Electric and built half of what was in the house, from the TV to a sound system nobody had invented yet. My dad carried it into computers and robots. I am the third: same name, same itch to build.
An unbroken circuit
Three generations, one current. The tools changed - vacuum tubes, then transistors, then a robot named Roger - but the urge to take something apart and build it better never skipped a generation.
He built everything
Founded Barkman Electric and wired the town alongside his son. But the trade was only half of it - a WWII vet and relentless tinkerer, he built the family's first television, built their house with his own hands, and engineered a home theater sound system before that was a thing anyone had a name for.
He went digital
A Vietnam veteran who took up the trade as an electrician, then chased down every new technology he could find - early computers, ham radio, Atari, one of the first car phones, and a lifelong soft spot for robots. He drew cartoons, too. Never pursued it, but the artist was already in the family.
I kept building
Third generation - and the third to carry the name. The art came from both sides: my dad's cartoons and my mom's painting and decorating. So I went pro as an artist and web developer instead of into the trade - but the tinkering never left. Now I'm finding my way back to those roots through robotics, electronics, and a rebuilt Omnibot named Roger.
